You would think that a non-profit organization named The Tank would be some new age, trendy think tank - a 20 something’s take on a policy institute. The Tank is new and trendy, but it’s about as far away from research and advocacy as you can get. “The Tank is a space for performing and visual arts emphasizing new work by emerging performers, designers, writers, directors and producers.” The Tank is mainly centered around performing arts such as comedy, dance, film, music, multimedia, and theater. Major events that they put on include the Blip Festival and the Bent Festival, while they also put on smaller scale events every week.
The Tank started in New York City as a volunteer run organization and 2003, and has remained that way for the most part. They keep their doors open 5 nights a week, which is a lot of work. Interns at The Tank are also volunteers (read: unpaid). The Tank just started accepting Fall internship applications on July 15th. Their site says that they had an “overwhelming response” for Summer internships, so it’s a good thing that we’re letting you know about them early in the process.
Internships at The Tank offer the unique opportunity to get involved in the emerging arts scene of New York. As an intern you will have the chance to learn in depth about the innerworkings of a young, non-profit arts space and will be exposed to an extensive pool of artists, performers, writers, producers and directors across disciplines.
The Tank is looking for a Development Intern and an Arts Administration Intern. Details of the internships can be found on their Get Involved page. If you want to intern at The Tank, email your resume and cover letter to Suzan Eraslan at suz@thetanknyc.org. Make sure that you note which internship you are applying for in the subject line of your email. The Tank takes interns year round, and offers them free admission to all of The Tank’s shows/events.
